About Me

My name is Jeff Heidel and I am a landscape and wildlife photographer, born and raised in Newton, KS. My artistic progression began in high school when I was searching for a medium that best suited my talents. During my sophomore year, I purchased my first 35mm SLR camera and was soon working on the school’s newspaper and yearbook staffs. During this time, my style could be described as a journalistic style of photography. After high school, I put down the camera to concentrate on my career as a Printed Circuit Board Designer, but the urge to be behind camera was always there. As an adult, I spent time on my Grandfather’s farm near Manhattan and the beauty of the Flint Hills rekindled my passion for photography. I wanted to capture this beauty and show people that Kansas is not the flat and boring place that people portray it to be. To me, the clouds are like mountains and the prairie grass is Kansas’ oceans. I feel that Kansas has some of the most beautiful sunsets/sunrises of any places that I have visited. In Kansas, Maxwell Wildlife Refuge and the Flint Hills, especially the area around Matfield Green, are my favorite places to photograph. However, I do not limit himself to just Kansas, I also enjoys the beauty of many other states such as New Mexico and Wyoming and I have also photographed in other countries such as Canada, Greece, and Tanzania. I currently reside in McPherson, KS, with his wife Anne and his stepsons Matt and Jake.
